Team 3162 - FIRST/Comrades

FIRST Vision:
Dean Kamen, Founder of FIRST, envisioned, “To transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology heroes."

FIRST Mission:
FIRST’s “mission is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.”

FIRST Motto:
“For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology,” drives an important mission—to design accessible, innovative programs that build self-confidence, knowledge and life skills, while motivating young people to pursue opportunities in science, technology and engineering.

About FIRST:
FIRST is a national not-for-profit organization that works with students to build knowledge, life skills, and self confidence, while developing an enjoyment and appreciation of science and technology. According to a study done by Brandeis University, students who participate in FIRST are significantly more likely to attend college.

What is FRC?
In January, hundreds of high school teams acquire a packet of materials, including an explanation of the game their robot will play, a set of rules, and a package of parts for their robot. All teams have only six weeks to design, build and train their robot to play the game. Those activities culminate in a regional robotic competition in March. Winners go on to compete in the World Championship in Atlanta, Georgia in April.
